The Jack Purcell Recreation Association seeks counsellors for its After School Program, which operates from September- June throughout the school year from 2:30-5:30pm at Jack Purcell Community Centre.
We are specifically looking for individuals to work from September-June 2025-2026 or September-May 2025-2026.
We provide after-school care for children in grades 1 through 6 from Elgin Street Public School. The program offers many different activities for children to participate in including arts and crafts, gym games, sports, swimming, outdoor time and more. A successful candidate’s primary responsibilities are to supervise children and to ensure that they take part in the daily, planned program activities in a safe and secure environment. Employees also may receive opportunities to work full day programs (i.e. P.A. days, March Break, Winter Break, Summer Camp, etc.) if desired.
We run the program at Jack Purcell Community Centre, Monday to Friday from 2:30-5:30 p.m. We are looking for counsellors able to work at least 2 days (6 hours) per week.
Specific duties include:
- Implementing and leading daily activities planned by the Coordinator/Supervisor (this includes both high energy and low energy activities, time outdoors, swimming, etc.).
- Adhering to safe policies and procedures outlined by the association
- Establishing and maintaining open communication with coworkers, children and parents.
- Must have previous working experience in children's programs and camps.
- Education in children’s studies is an asset.
- Must have valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must provide proof of police record check in the vulnerable sector or undergo one when hired.
- Must attend a virtual interview with the Children's Program Coordinator.
