We are looking for an Advisor - Operational Excellence to be part of a high performing team which is committed to supporting performance improvement activities at Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), in Labrador City. This role works more specifically to support the PI Business Partners, to facilitate continuous improvement in safe production and cost performance. This role is suited to an energetic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual who is seeking to develop their career within a leading organization.

Reporting to the Coordinator – Performance Improvement, and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will be:

  • Provide strategic, tactical and technical support, training, and coaching to operations and support teams in identifying, scoping, and executing business improvement projects

  • Assist in deployment of business improvement method and tools, in line with the business improvement strategy/plan

  • Lead area-wide business improvement projects, including but not limited to Six Sigma projects, BI Mandates, Task Forces, Kaizens, 5S events and other Lean initiatives

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in the use of Lean and/or Six Sigma improvement methodologies, such as Kaizens, Root Cause Analysis, Rapid Problem Solving, DMAIC project execution, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams and facilitate problem solving and conflict resolution among multiple stakeholders

  • A strong ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders

  • Ability to manage multiple mandates, simultaneously

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including time management skills and strong facilitation skills

  • Proficient data analytics & visualization skills, including ease with Microsoft suite and other relevant platforms

It is also beneficial if you have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Industrial Engineering or related field

  • Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt certification (completed or in progress)

  • Experience within the mining, processing, or other heavy industry

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,700 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.

IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway.
