The Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission (RCIPC) has the mandate of restoring and preserving the summer home of former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt as a legacy of Canada-U.S. friendship. The Commission, in addition to this mandated work, is focused on drawing more tourists and providing more economic opportunities in the region. The Commission consists of six members. Three are appointed by the Government of Canada (one is nominated by the New Brunswick government) and three are appointed by the Government of the United States (one is nominated by the Maine government). There are also three alternate commissioners from each country.
The Commission meets at least once a year. Among their key functions, Canadian members of the commission:
- ensure the proper delivery of public policy on behalf of the Government of Canada;
- provide leadership and guidance to the park’s management team, and sets the park’s long-term strategic direction;
- monitor and evaluate the achievement of corporate goals; and
- oversee the superintendent’s performance.

- Experience serving on Boards of Directors of public, private or not-for-profit sector organizations operating in a public policy environment;
- Experience in Corporate Governance, Human Resources and Compensation;
- Experience in Government Relations, and dealing with senior government officials and Ministers would be considered an asset; and
- Experience in Strategic Planning, Execution and Change Management.
- Knowledge of the mandate, mission and activities of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission (RCIPC), as well as the legislative framework within which it operates;
- Knowledge of current issues in Canada-United States bilateral relations and demonstrated marketing skills and knowledge of the Atlantic Canadian tourism industry;
- Financial literacy with a demonstrated ability to critically read and analyze financial statements, review and approve annual operating and capital budgets and oversee risks to the enterprise;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with fellow board members and stakeholders and actively participate in discussions amongst board members;
- Ability to assess bilateral/regional challenges/risks and incorporate these considerations in Board discussions relating to the support the effective management of the park; and
- Strong communication skills.

- All appointees are subject to the Conflicts of Interest Act. Public office holders appointed on a full-time basis must also submit to the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics within 60 days of appointment, a confidential report in which they disclose all of their assets, liabilities and outside activities. - If you are appointed to one of these positions, you must be available and willing to participate in semi-annual (spring and fall) RCIPC meetings and standing committee meetings as required on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, or virtually.
- If you are appointed to one of these positions, you must be available to participate in other special meetings in person or by conference calls, as required by the Commission.
