Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and skilled Respiratory Therapist ll (A) to join our healthcare team. As a Registered Therapist ll (A) in the Operating Room, you will be responsible for supporting Anesthesia care in the intraoperative phase. You will be responsible for working closely with Anesthesia. Strong communication and collaboration skills are important; problem-solving skills using critical thinking, time management and adaptability are imperative; leadership and conflict resolution skills are essential to this role. You will act as a clinical Respiratory resource and support for surgical operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform assessments and provide therapeutic interventions intraoperatively for patients, under the supervision of Anesthesiologist
- Assist with administration of respiratory treatments, therapies, and medications (e.g., oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, ventilation support, current competency with Pharmacology)
- Assist with Airway Management, Endotracheal intubation and Airway Adjuncts
- Establishing IV Access
- Assisting Anesthesiologist with Regional Anesthesia
- Provide Temporary OR Room relief for Anesthesia
- Participate in code blue and emergency response situations
- Maintain accurate documentation when required
- You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, maintenance, and quality assurance.
- Identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of Anesthesia supplies and materials in the OR.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary OR team
- Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and clinic policies
Required Qualifications:
- Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA)
- Graduate of a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy accredited by the Council on Accreditation, for Respiratory Therapy Education
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Operating Room Experience
- Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of clinical experience across diverse respiratory therapy environments
- Membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) is an asset
