For more than 100 years, AdvantAge Ontario has been the voice of not-for-profit seniors’ care in Ontario. We represent more than 500 providers of long-term care, seniors’ housing, supportive housing and community service agencies, including 98 per cent of all municipal long-term care homes and 83 per cent of all not-for-profit long-term care homes.

Model of Supervision
One-to-one weekly supervision (student has one field instructor who they receive field instruction from remotely throughout the duration of the placement)

Field Placement Details
Understanding not-for-profit advocacy for seniors, policies affecting seniors' care, health, housing, etc. The placement will support through research, analysis, advocacy related to issues affecting our members.
Tasks & Activities:
- Research on various website platforms for housing, capital development policy
- Extract and analyze research data using Excel
- Prepare PowerPoint presentation decks.
- Assemble and reformat policy files.
- Prepare summary sheets for reports/documents
- Attend online meetings and minute take as required
Requirements:
- Excellent research and data analysis skills
- Strong Excel skills (Power BI skills are an advantage but not required)
- Computer- Student must have exclusive access to a computer (i.e., not shared with others)
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Must have microphone and webcam for online meetings.
- Reliable Internet Access
- Cell phone/ Land line (asset)
- Student must have a private room for conducting meetings, data collection and/or other confidential tasks.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and demands.
- Superior organizational skills - the ability to work well under pressure and multi-task on numerous projects, often with competing levels of priority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytics and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Policy analysis and document writing experience.
- Experience with writing minutes or notes and summarizing information sheets.
Student Assets and Requirements
Enrolment in post secondary public policy, administrative, business or research courses.
Hours: 14 to 20 hours per week. Can also offer flexible hours.
