As a Surveillance Data Coordinator with Peel Public Health, you'll be an essential part of the team that tracks, manages, and shares critical information on communicable diseases. If you're looking for work with purpose, impact, and a team that values your expertise, this is it.
What You’ll Do:
This role is perfect for someone who thrives on precision, loves digging into data, and wants their work to have real-world impact. You’ll:
- Process and manage communicable disease reports in the integrated Public Health Information System (iPHIS)
- Support outbreak responses by coordinating time-sensitive health data with speed and accuracy
- Collaborate with internal and external partners including labs, hospitals, and other public health units
- Improve data quality through regular audits, troubleshooting, and documentation updates
- Train and support staff, helping them navigate Ministry databases and data standards
- Act as a trusted point of contact for surveillance inquiries via phone and email
- Contribute to innovation by refining workflows and developing tools to support team procedures
- Other duties as assigned
What You Bring:
You’re someone who thrives in a structured yet fast-paced environment and understands the critical role data plays in health systems. Ideally, you have:
- Post-secondary education in a related field, with 1–3 years of data management or equivalent experience
- Strong experience with data entry and large databases like iPHIS
- Knowledge of communicable disease reporting and the ability to interpret lab results
- Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact
- An eye for detail and a passion for data quality and accuracy
- Strong communication skills — both written and verbal
- High proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other data management tools
- The ability to work well independently and in a team, with excellent organizational skills and adaptability
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
