Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring that the patient’s information/surgery details and the paperwork match.
- Ensuring the proper operation of the HVAC airflow, and lighting within the operating room.
- Ensuring that all surgical equipment is available and in working order and is then sterilized appropriately prior to each use.
- Ensuring that the operating room is clean and neat and that the operating room bed is cleansed prior to each patient.
- Wearing appropriate operative room gear including head cover and mask.
- Ensuring that all necessary disposable items (e.g. drapes, pads, solutions, etc.) are in ready supply for each day and that all medications are available and not outdated.
- Recording all results at the appropriate place on the patient’s chart.
- Ensuring that all printouts are appropriately labelled.
- Positioning the patient appropriately and comfortably in a polite and courteous manner.
- Preparing the surface area around the eye for surgery using the aseptic technique.
- Record all data during surgery.
- Assisting the scrub nurse and surgeon in preparing and during.
- Maintaining a workspace that is orderly and clean.
- Maintaining all equipment properly.
- Being always courteous and polite to all patients.
- Instilling eye drops immediately post-operatively.
- Addressing any concerns that any patient might have.
- Clean and sterilise room for next use.
- Completing required reports.
Experience
- Experience is an Asset.
Education
- Other trades certificate or diplomas
