Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Assets and Compliance, this role ensures the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the power system. The Supervisor provides technical and operational support to the FortisBC Control Centre, with a focus on NERC compliance, SCADA/RTCA systems, outage analysis, and operator training.
In this role, you will:
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and BC Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) related to system operations and training.
- Provide technical support to Control Centre Operations, including SCADA/RTCA systems, system outage analysis, and NERC compliance.
- Lead the scheduling and coordination of operator training to maintain CEH hours and NERC certification.
- Optimize crew output through effective training, work planning, and scheduling.
- Continuously update operational and training materials to reflect changes in standards, policies, and procedures.
- Support the Operations Manager, Control Centre, during emergencies and in day-to-day operations across Generation, Transmission, and Distribution desks.
In year 1, you will:
- Build strong relationships with Control Centre teams and stakeholders.
- Conduct a gap analysis of current compliance and training practices.
- Begin updating training documentation and SCADA/RTCA -related procedures.
- Lead the development of a refreshed CEH/NERC training program.
- Implement a tracking system for operator certifications and training hours.
In year 2, you will:
- Demonstrate measurable improvements in compliance audit readiness and operator performance.
- Lead or support a mock audit or emergency response drill.
- Refine and expand technical training programs based on evolving NERC standards and operational needs.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to succession planning within the Control Centre team.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in outage scheduling, safety practices, and SCADA/RTCA system reliability.
What it takes:
- Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; P.Eng. designation preferred. NERC certification is a strong asset.
- Experience: 4–7 years in operations compliance, preferably in a utility or control centre environment.
- Tools & Systems: Proficient in SCADA/RTCA, MS Office Suite, and training management systems.
- Soft Skills: Calm under pressure, collaborative, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement.
