Nature and Scope:
The Term Barista is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Starbucks and the Algonquin Students’ Association guiding principles while providing legendary service to all customers. In this position you will be part of a Supervisor team responsible for creating a positive Starbucks experience for our customers while providing prompt service, quality beverages and products, and providing a clean, safe and comfortable store environment.
Job Duties:
- Deliver legendary customer service. Supervise, train, coach and delegate tasks.
- Opening and/or closing duties. Includes inventory checks, temperature logs, cash handling, cleaning and maintenance schedules.
- Provides quality beverages, whole bean, and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards. Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.
- Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events and contributes to efficient store operating standards set by Management team.
- Participates and contributes to all partners training.
- Implements a positive work environment.
- Consistent compliance of Starbucks QASA standards. Completes all required legislated workplace health and safety training.
- Know how to operate and maintain all equipment properly and respectfully.
- Participates and knowledgeable of all Starbucks customer service and promotional programs.
- Follows Students’ Association & Starbucks operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security, to ensure the safety of all partners during each shift.
- Follows all POS and Starbucks card reader procedures, corrects transactions when required.
- Completes cash outs, report printing, closing deposits and float balance.
- Acts with integrity, respect and honesty.
- Implements ‘FIFO’ rules for food and beverage products, follows par levels and Starbucks shelf-life standards.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Hospitality and customer service experience is an asset,
- Café and/or Starbucks supervisor experience is preferred.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions and request clarification when needed.
- Ability to learn quickly.

- Maintain effective working relationships with managers and other employees.
- Ability to perform and sustain physical activity for extended periods of time.
- Willing to work non-traditional shifts, must be available for weekend shift(s).

- Barista Certification and Certified Trainer (training provided).
- CPR and First Aid Certificate (preferred)
Work Conditions
- Work in a hospitality service setting, with exposure to extreme temperatures and ability to sustain physical activity for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity is required to use a tablet, oven, brewer, Mastrena machines, and other equipment.
- Ability to lift 40lbs required.
- Fast-paced environment.
Compensation
- Salary $20.00 per hour.
- Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week.
- Work week may be flexible with some weeks being more hours and some weeks less.
- Paid sick time.
- 4% vacation pay per pay period.
