OVERALL PURPOSE

  • Project manages the tasks identified in the Contribution Agreement through Natural Resources Canada’s Federal Fighting and Managing Wildfires in a Changing Climate – Training Fund
  • Project manages any work related to Specific Purpose Project (SPP)
  • Analyses risk and provides mitigation measures on SPP
  • Preparing forecasts, operating, and capital budgets for SPP
  • Monitoring performance against budget of the SPP, scope of work and schedule in collaboration with TRU Finance and the Budget Office, Provincial and Federal Ministries, and Associations
  • Providing requested analyses of budget and financial performance to the funding partners and stakeholders
  • Providing strategic direction and project management on externally funded short term program planning based on SPP parameters


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluates the In-Community Wildfire Training applications, against the established assessment criteria to identify and train groups that will enhance wildfire response capacity, with a focus on rural, remote, and Indigenous communities
  • Manages the delivery of wildfire training and program evaluations post-training to document best practices and learning opportunities
  • Prepares forecasts based on SPP operating and capital budgets
  • Monitors and reporting on SPP forecasts, operating and capital budget
  • Provides project management, contract administration, and procurement
  • Liaises with TRU Finance, TRU Budget Office, provincial and federal stakeholders
  • Provides strategic and operational support within SPP
  • Develops budget strategies for all of the operations of the SPP
  • Co-ordinates budget analysis and planning with the Budget Office and TRU Finance
  • Collects SPP data information and analyze
  • Represents SPP on institution-wide committees and planning bodies relevant to SPP
  • Prepares budgets and reports in the context of short- and long-term project planning
  • Determines the source of appropriate data to complete analyses and develop budget strategies
  • Manages outcome-based deliverables with a significant level of internal and external stakeholder engagement
  • Implements project deliverables, monitoring scope schedule, and executing project closeout
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support project deliverables
  • Other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Degree in Natural Resource Science, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent education and experience
  • Project management education and training
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in an academic or complex professional environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to translate budget, financial data and project scenarios in non-technical terms
  • Ability to support a research project focused on quality improvement
  • Ability to set and implement budget and planning priorities
  • Knowledge and experience with wildfire management, delivering/coordinating wildfire training, and wildfire training curriculum/standards in British Columbia
  • Experience working with government bodies, external agencies, indigenous organizations, and knowledge of indigenous culture and customs
