Manager of Finance (Chief Financial Officer)



Located in the beautiful West Kootenay region of British Columbia, the City of Rossland is a progressive municipality of approximately 4,140 (2021 Census) known for its proximity to world-class outdoor recreation, heritage architecture and arts & culture atmosphere. Only four hours from Kelowna, two and a half hours from Spokane, WA and three kilometers from the base of Red Mountain Resort (within City limits), Rossland is rapidly growing into a first-class, all-seasons BC Resort Municipality.

We are looking for a dynamic person to be our Manager of Finance (Chief Financial Officer). With strong municipal financial experience, this position is responsible for the overall planning, coordinating, safeguarding, supervising, and directing of the City’s financial accounting & reporting activities, which includes payroll, purchasing, risk management, IT, and asset management to name a few. This position is a key part of the City’s Senior Management Team and offers an excellent opportunity for those passionate about contributing their skills towards innovative new projects, community long-range financial planning, and other strategic municipal initiatives/activities.

The ideal candidate will have a proven combination of operational and technical skills and will be responsible for the overall management and efficient delivery of all financial services to the community. The preferred candidate will be a collaborative and results-oriented leader, with possession of a combination of the following education, knowledge, and/or experiences:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation,
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, team building and comedic skills,
  • 5-7 years experience related to local government or municipal finance operations,
  • 5 years experience in a senior supervisory capacity directing personnel involved in delivery of local government/municipal finance operations,
  • Project Management, Risk Management and Asset Management planning experience; and
  • Additional courses/training in general Public Administration would be considered an asset.
