Description

The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

The Research Assistant will support a 5-year research study in youth and adolescents with mental health multimorbidity. This project aims to provide a deeper understanding of the trajectories of youth seeking mental health care as they navigate key transition points in their development. This goal will be achieved by including sampling from a diverse range of clinical services, standardized data collection and deep phenotyping of select clinical cohorts of youth (aged 11-25 years) and will support modular clinical trials.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist with scheduling and conducting research participant visits
  • Responsible for
    • preparing and maintaining participant study records and documentation
    • data entry and database maintenance
    • biological sample collection/preparation
    • preparing data for presentations and peer-reviewed research papers
    • other administrative duties as required
  • Will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable University of Calgary policies, as well as all regulatory and legislative requirements

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or neuroscience combined with one (1) year of relevant clinical or research experience with youth, young adults and/or families with mental health challenges
  • Previous experience in administration of neuropsychological assessments (e.g., Wechsler, NIH Toolbox), structured diagnostic interviewing (e.g., KSADS-5, SCID-5), and clinical rating scales (e.g., RCADS-25) is preferred
  • Previous experience in screening, recruiting, and leading the informed consent process with research participants is preferred
  • Previous experience with neuroimaging (e.g. MRI) and handling specimens (e.g. blood, urine) is an asset
  • Previous experience with mobile sensing data collection methods is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain large databases and use electronic data capture methods (e.g. REDCap) and will have literature review and synthesis skills
  • Proficiency with word processing, PowerPoint and database software packages is required
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and diverse stakeholders is essential
  • Demonstrated communications skills (both oral and written) are required as is the ability to explain complex issues in plain language
  • Have excellent attention to detail, the ability to exercise initiative and good judgment, an
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset
