Position Summary:
The Refrigeration Operator will be responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the ammonia refrigeration system in accordance with TSSA rules and regulation as well as maintaining building auxiliary functions. Responsibilities are highly diversified and include installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of equipment to support the warehouse in a professional, timely and cost effective manner.
You will work a continental 4 week shift rotation.

- Operating refrigeration system as per TSSA regulations and all other governing bodies regulations and guidelines;
- Documenting several readings (temperatures, pressures, ammonia compressor statistics) multiple times, daily;
- Monitoring and records flow rates, pressures and temperatures within specific cold chain parameters;
- Following GMP rules while performing repairs and Preventative Maintenance tasks;
- Maintain clear communication with Chief Refrigeration Operator to report abnormalities;
- Updating maintenance records as work is completed and keep documentation in an audit ready state
- Providing scheduled and unscheduled repairs of equipment, machines, facilities and grounds including but not limited to dock doors, dock plates, minor floor repairs, HVAC, roll up doors, battery maintenance, fire alarm systems, generators, fire pumps, refrigerant detection, security systems, and housekeeping throughout the distribution center;
- Completing spare parts inventory and update Chief Refrigeration Operator as required;
- Ordering and maintaining proper inventory of materials, supplies and equipment;
- Working with outside contractors to ensure that safety and security requirements are adhered to at all times;
- Ensuring temporary repairs are done in a manner that does not create potential food safety hazards;
- Informing Sanitation or Production when repairs are completed so that proper sanitation of surfaces can be completed;
- Complete and keep up to date on all Health & Safety, food safety and quality assurance training pertinent to the role.
- Responsible for reporting any and all concerns related to the Health & Safety, safe handling and integrity of all items received, stored and distributed by Flanagan Foodservice.
- Work in a continuous improvement environment including personal growth;
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma/GED required, College diploma in maintenance preferred;
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings;
- Class B Refrigeration Certificate from TSSA in good standing;
- Must have working knowledge of HACCP and safe food handling and distribution practices;
- Must be comfortable reading Blueprints and Schematics;
- Experience with Raymond End Rider, Reach truck, Counterbalance, Scissor Lift and Order Picker is preferred;
- Comfortable working at heights, in a multi-temperature environment, and able to safety lift up to 40kg;
- Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation;
- Proficient in use of mechanical hand tools and power tools;
- Computer skills for entering inventory records, Excel, Word, and Outlook;
- Possesses a positive working attitude, willingness to learn new skills and appreciation of other points of view;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Must have a sense of urgency and respond quickly to problems using problem solving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal in English;
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with little supervision and be comfortable making decisions as they arise;
- Proven ability to multi-task, problem solve and manage calmly in stressful situations;
- Class B refrigeration Certificate
- Work in all types of weather/climate
- Knowledge of HACCP and safe food handling
- Use of mechanical hand tools and power tools
