The Town of Coaldale is a growing community located in the heart of southern Alberta. With a variety of recreational facilities, diverse amenities, and local attractions, Coaldale offers the charm of small-town living with the services of a larger urban centre.
Position Summary
The Recreation Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town’s recreation facilities and amenities. This role includes duties across multiple departments, and requires flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain Town recreation facilities on a regular basis.
- Prepare and maintain sports fields, including turf care, line painting, shale grooming, moving bleachers, filling gopher holes, and setting up nets.
- Maintain outdoor pool, spray park, and tot lot facilities.
- Make and maintain arena ice and ensure ice facilities are in top condition.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform minor repairs or standard maintenance on recreation facilities and equipment.
- Ensure all recreation facilities and grounds are clean, safe, and well maintained.
- Operate equipment and vehicles as required (e.g., trucks, Zamboni, etc.).
- Follow Town safety regulations and procedures, reporting any hazards or concerns.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Assets (training available for the right candidate):
- Arena Operator Level 1 Certification.
- Pool Operator Level 1 Certification.
- Parks & Sports Field Level 1 Certification.
Working Conditions
- Indoor and outdoor work in a variety of environments (ice rinks, hot/cold weather, dry/dusty/wet conditions, exposure to insects and wildlife).
- Physical requirements include moderate exertion such as bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and walking.
- Regular exposure to water treatment and cleaning/janitorial chemicals.
- Standard 8-hour shifts, with occasional overtime as required.
Health & Safety
- Adherence to the Town of Coaldale Safety Program is mandatory.
- All work must comply with the Town’s policies and Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.81-$29.81 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
