About Us
At Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG), we help people with disabilities live more independent lives by providing them with a Dog Guide at no cost. We are proud to be the only school in Canada offering seven distinct Dog Guide programs. Our operations span two locations: Oakville, ON, and Breslau, ON.
The Opportunity
The Puppy Nursery Attendant plays a key role in maintaining a high standard of care for all breeding dogs and puppies at our Breslau breeding facility. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position that involves cleaning, feeding, monitoring health and behaviour, and supporting whelping and neonatal care. You will work closely with the breeding program team to ensure the wellbeing of every dog in our care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for dogs and puppies in the nursery.
- Clean and maintain kennels, including disposing of waste and scrubbing/drying areas.
- Handle dogs appropriately, following guidance from supervisors and fellow attendants.
- Bathe, groom, feed, and exercise dogs and puppies.
- Monitor health and behaviour; administer treatments and medications as needed.
- Keep accurate records on each dog’s health, behaviour, and progress.
- Assist with veterinary checks.
- Support breeding management, whelping, and neonatal care.
- Provide enrichment, socialization, and basic training for mothers and puppies.
Requirements
- Knowledge of dog care needs, canine health/diseases, and basic veterinary care.
- Ability to safely and effectively administer treatments.
- Understanding of small animal husbandry and enrichment programs.
- Skilled in handling large-breed dogs and groups of dogs.
- Experience with grooming, bathing, health checks, and nail trimming.
- Knowledge of canine nutrition and weight maintenance.
- Strong understanding of dog behaviour.
- Professional, compassionate, and collaborative when working with people and dogs.
- Physical stamina for lifting, bending, and working in all weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence.
