Job Description
The Program Director for Perioperative Services will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Surgical program across all Halton Healthcare and community sites. This role requires a collaborative leader who will work closely with the Program Medical Director to drive the program’s strategic vision, ensure high-quality patient care, and promote effective resource management. The Program Director will also shape organizational culture, foster cross-functional collaboration, and support corporate projects impacting organizational and patient care outcomes.
Specifically, the Program Director will:
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Perioperative Surgical program that is aligned with Halton Healthcare’s overall strategic plan and vision.
- Strategically develop, implement and evaluate new technology and expanded programs to address program growth needs related to the populations served.
- Work collaboratively with the Program Medical Director and other key stakeholders.
- Coordinate internal and external planning efforts to support regional and provincial initiatives.
- Facilitate the integration and redesign of services to enhance program effectiveness.
- Establish Program goals that are aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Shape organizational culture and climate by creating an environment that aligns with Halton Healthcare’s values, promotes equity and inclusion, supports the interdisciplinary teams and enables continuous quality improvement.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with clinical teams to ensure timely and appropriate patient care; ensuring patients and families are supported and informed throughout their care journey.
- Ensure the program focuses on quality patient care and adheres to best practices.
- Establish program-based quality frameworks to ensure continuous improvement in service levels.
- Address patient safety concerns and implement risk mitigation strategies; support quality review processes and investigate critical incidents.
- Coordinate and align resources through effective planning and budgeting, to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence based patient care in the most cost effective manner possible.
- Support corporate projects that impact organizational functioning and/or patient care.
- Participate in corporate committees and initiatives, and seek feedback to refine leadership approaches.
- Foster an environment of learning and development for Program staff through coaching, managing performance and mentoring, with a goal of driving organizational performance.
- Cultivate a positive labour relations environment within the Program and applies policies and appropriate collective agreement language consistently and fairly.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of clinical and administrative leadership experience in an acute care medical setting.
- Recent experience managing surgical programs.
- Expertise in building links across and outside the organization creating opportunities to collaborate and build capacity.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills to influence strategies and optimize communications to achieve desired results.
- Demonstrated ability to gain consensus, resolve conflict and create alignment within and across all partners.
- Demonstrated ability to set goals, make decisions and create plans focusing on change and transformation, inclusion and development based on the strategic business direction.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize allocation of human, financial and infrastructure resources to provide quality healthcare within a safe and accessible health system.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate vision that generates engagement, enthusiasm and commitments to the organization’s mission, vision and values.
