Production Supervisor-Mining:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and coordinate plant operations to maximize efficiency, product quality, and safety in alignment with company policies and objectives.
  • Ensure the seamless execution of production schedules and operational targets while managing resources effectively.
  • Foster a strong culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across all shifts.
  • Serve as the point of authority during night and weekend shifts, supervising lab and maintenance teams to address operational needs and ensure alignment with production goals.
  • Actively demonstrate and uphold the company’s Culture & Leadership principles, promoting teamwork, accountability, and innovation.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Oversight
  • Supervise and provide clear direction to production teams to meet daily production and shipping goals effectively and respond to emerging challenges.
  • Monitor plant operations, including calcining processes, shipping, and equipment performance, to ensure consistent quality and productivity.
  • Oversee shipping logistics, ensuring products are packaged and dispatched on schedule and in compliance with quality standards.
  • Support maintenance activities during off-hours, ensuring critical equipment remains operational and addressing any urgent repairs.
  • Support laboratory operations during off-hours to ensure timely testing and analysis of product samples, maintaining quality standards and adherence to customer specifications.
Training and Development
  • Train production personnel on operating procedures, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  • Mentor team to enhance skills and foster professional growth, focusing on cross-functional knowledge.

Safety and Compliance
  • Conduct safety checks and enforce compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate workplace hazards, conducting and documenting safety investigations, submitting required reports, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including proper lockout/tagout and hazard communication practices.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Serve as the primary liaison between all crews and department managers, ensuring smooth transitions between shifts.
  • Maintain detailed shift logs, including production metrics, equipment status, and any operational challenges.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule preventive and corrective repairs and provide input for shutdown planning.
  • Ensure lab results are communicated effectively to production teams and used to adjust processes as needed.
  • Maintain constructive labour relations by ensuring fair and consistent application of the collective agreement.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Develop strategies to optimize resource allocation and minimize downtime during night and weekend operations.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance and lab teams to refine procedures and implement best practices.
Administrative Duties
  • Record and report production data, inventory levels, and shift performance metrics.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions, ensuring all employees are informed and compliant with company standards.
  • Authorize and document payroll for employees under your supervision.
AUTHORITY:
  • Authorized to travel on behalf of the Company and to incur the necessary expenses with prior approval of their Supervisor.
  • Authorized to make decisions related to production (including maintenance, and quality control during off-hours).
  • Authorized to hire, discipline personnel in the Production department with prior approval of his Supervisor.
  • Empowered to take necessary actions to maintain operational continuity, safety, and quality during emergencies.
SUPERVISOR:
Production Manager

SUBORDINATES:
Unionized workforce (approx. 6 to 12 per shift)

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or advanced training in manufacturing, maintenance, or related fields preferred.
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a calcining, or similar industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in production workflows, quality assurance, and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet physical demands and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
