Overview
Muskoka Hills Retirement Villa is seeking a dedicated and passionate Part-Time Cook to join our culinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appetizing meals tailored to the dietary needs and preferences of our residents. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation, a strong understanding of food safety, and a genuine passion for supporting the health and well-being of seniors through quality meals.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook daily meals for residents based on planned menus, taking into consideration individual dietary restrictions (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, gluten-free, etc.).
- Assist in planning and organizing menus in collaboration with management staff, ensuring a variety of nutritious and appealing options.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment in accordance with public health and food safety standards.
- Store and handle food properly to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Communicate with care staff and management to stay informed about resident needs and any changes to dietary requirements.
- Participate in ordering and inventory control, helping ensure adequate supplies of ingredients and kitchen essentials.
- Ensure timely meal preparation and service while maintaining a calm, efficient workflow in the kitchen.
- Assist with special meals and events within the residence, such as holiday dinners or themed events.
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and workspaces regularly.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a kitchen, cafeteria, or food service environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and safe food handling practices (e.g., Safe Food Handler Certification).
- Ability to prepare meals for individuals with special dietary needs and restrictions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan ahead and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for supporting seniors through food and service.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
