PWP (Parkinson Wellness Projects) is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease, as well as their care partners and families. We offer evidence-based exercise classes, support groups, counselling, and opportunities for connection in a welcoming and inclusive space.
Position Overview
We are seeking a warm, organized, and adaptable Office Assistant to help keep our community hub running smoothly. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys supporting others behind the scenes, while also being a friendly and compassionate presence for those navigating the challenges of Parkinson’s disease. This position includes volunteer coordination duties and direct interaction with participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet participants, care partners, and visitors, creating a calm and welcoming environment.
- Offer a listening ear to individuals who may be struggling, showing empathy and patience.
- Respond to general inquiries and help participants navigate or access appropriate internal programs or community resources.
- Answer phone calls and emails, and direct questions appropriately.
- Provide general administrative support: data entry, scheduling, photocopying, filing, ordering supplies.
- Support logistics for exercise classes and support groups (e.g., attendance tracking, materials prep).
- Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the living room/office, gym, and shared kitchen spaces.
- Coordinate volunteers: scheduling, onboarding, providing ongoing support, and actively recruiting new volunteers to meet program needs.
- Other duties as required to support daily operations and the well-being of our participants.
Qualifications
- Previous administrative or office experience preferred.
- Warm, patient, and emotionally mature — able to listen and respond with empathy.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable, flexible, and able to juggle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Comfortable learning new software.
- Experience in volunteer coordination or nonprofit work is an asset.
- Knowledge of or interest in Parkinson’s disease and community-based care is a strong plus.
- Background in social services, healthcare, or working with vulnerable populations is beneficial but not required.
