The Role: Master Compounder
Availability: Full-time with an ability to work mornings, afternoons, and occasional overtime, holidays and weekends.
Reporting to the Room Manager, the function of a Master Compounder is to provide an elevated support to both the compounding teams and the Lush business overall. Through their demonstrated proficiency of the core Compounder duties and the skills they’ve established through their time at Lush, they support across rooms and teams as needed. They are solid and well-rounded in their compounding experiences, enabling them to apply their subject-matter-expertise in a variety of ways. In addition to compounding, responsibilities include support for continuous improvement, support for training and development programs, factory-wide raw material, quality/formula troubleshooting, and safety initiatives via active collaboration with factory leadership and support teams. A Master Compounder must have completed the Master Compounder program and completed training in the following rooms: Ballistics, Bubbles, Soap, Massage, Misc./Toothy Tabs/EB, Fresh and Dairy. They must be all successfully signed off on these departments via a Level 2 Compounder in their home department, or by another Master Compounder. The overall goal is to have a Master Compounder in every department. While the compounders will report to the Room Managers the Master Compounders will work alongside the Management teams with both parties responsible for ensuring quality and efficiency in compounding.
The Master Compounder will not be expected to contribute to the day to day production unless required by a different area or a surge in a specific range. The main role of a Master Compounder is to train, upscale, work and collaborate with Unit 1, with a general focus on overall improvements across Manufacturing. Also to help out with any outreach that may become available. With an overall of making great fresh products.
What You Do:
Core Competency + Responsibilities:
- Presentations - Be able to present to your team or take part in presentations
- Introduce new products into the department - To work with the unit 1 leads in bringing in new products and ranges into their departments. Also on upscaling the new products in their respective department
- Identify and nurture potential future compounders, and provide training to new compounders - To help develop and train new Compounders as well as Compounders on the Master Compounder scheme. Also to train skilled trainers in their department
- Look after and review training plans - To constantly review Compounder training plans, to adapt it and change it due to new ranges and equipment - to be done with the management team
- Look at routings of new products - To help and work with the unit 1 lead on timings of new and seasonal products
- Uphold the quality of products - Working with the management team to make sure the department is producing top quality products
- Constantly review equipment and work with the Process Improvement team - Work with the management team, leads and the PI team on making the compounding process easier and more efficient i.e. pumps etc.
- Participate in shop visits and events - There will be times that you will need to do filming, shop visits and events and you will be expected to occasionally take part in these, including occasionally to inventors and founders
- Well-versed in all product lines with the readiness to advise where needed (may have strength in specific areas, but have enough baseline knowledge of all key processes to be able to support of find support where required)
- Demonstrates established knowledge and experiences of raw materials – how they work, why we use them and the effects of the ingredients in finished products
- Fosters strong relationships where they are identified as a trusted and fearless leader with a track record of proven deliverables both within the Compounding community as well as by the Room Management teams.
- Comfortable hosting and supporting brand events and communicating in public forums
- Identified as, and responsible to be an expert for a room, compounding operation or product range
- Coaches, supports and facilitates solutions regarding quality challenges – leads discussions to establish a recommendation or quality decision with the room team, support team and leadership.
- Demonstrates proficiency of core compounding skills, producing top quality products and troubleshooting formulas & raw materials.
- Act as a representative for compounding, fluent in the perspectives, challenges and needs of others on the team
- Collaborates and communicates to solve problems and improve processes across all departments and on both coasts and in connection with our UK partners. This includes time spend in various production rooms and with a variety of teams
- Nurture strong relationships with Management, inventory controllers, production planners, floor supervisors and various support team members to encourage a positive team dynamic and operational success
- Engage in continuous improvement projects as needed, including but not limited to test batches, raw material challenges, and quality issues
- Support the design and implementation of Compounding training programs and guide development for other compounders
- Work with R&D in various capacities (troubleshooting, raw mat testing, product creation etc..)

- Be flexible - Even though you will be based in one department/area there will be times you will need to be flexible, your role could see you working in various different areas like the lab/R&D, unit 1, global travel or even a department you are currently not leading in if the work is not there. This will also require you to be flexible with your time i.e. factory times are different to lab times, plus training may be required for a short time on a different shift.

- Be a great communicator - Be able to communicate clearly and well while training Compounders and also be able to communicate well with inventors and leads.
- Be someone that people aspire to be - The Master Compounder role is a prestigious position and you must set the standards to demonstrate that. Also to be an ambassador for Lush on outside visits.
- Be Open minded - Open to new ideas and be flexible to change, happy to bring ideas to the table.
Who You Are (Qualifications):
Required:
- Current Lush employee
- Completed the Master Compounder program and been signed off the following rooms: Ballistics, Bubbles, Soap, Massage, Misc./Toothy Tabs/EB, Fresh and Dairy
- An established Compounder with a track record for exemplary quality
- Performance in Compounding in good standing
- A proven problem solver and critical thinker, able to identify root causes and solutions to a variety of problems including formulas, raw materials, and production processes
- Fluent in the Lush brand and comfortable and confident communicating about Lush in both internal and external forums
- Comfortable with reading, writing, and speaking English in order to communicate with peers and leadership on all platforms (i.e. in person, via email, via Google/Teams chat)
- Has strongly demonstrated leadership qualities/skills within their current role/department
- Commitment to abide by and oversee health & safety regulations
- Commitment to abide by and oversee our good manufacturing practices
Preferred:
- Experience working in a variety of rooms and departments within Lush
- Previous experience working in kitchens, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing
- Post-secondary education
- Proven leadership skills in a variety of work environments and situations
- Strong recognition of process improvement and efficiency implementation
- Flexible to work shift work, as well as weekends, holidays and occasional overtime
- Proficient in MS Office and Google programs
- Proficient with ERP systems (AX)
