The Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives division provides strategic and integrated policy and project services and functions for Justice. The division’s focus centers on cross-divisional and cross-ministry projects such as strategic policy initiatives and business transformations.

Join the Justice Supports Branch, Legal Aid and Grants (LAAG) unit as the Manager of Legal Aid Governance and Government Operations, a pivotal role in advancing the branch’s strategic priorities.

As the Manager of Legal Aid Governance and Government Operations, reporting to the Director, Legal Aid and Grants, you will work closely with the LAAG team, the branch leadership team, staff in the Assistant Deputy Ministers’ Office and the Financial Services Division, other divisional staff, Legal Aid Alberta staff, and other justice system stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality information and analysis highlighting how the delivery of legal aid services impacts Albertan’s access to justice.

This role is responsible for directing the development and management of systems and processes that facilitate information flow and monitor the progress of key strategic initiatives and priorities for the branch, working through the LAAG team. A core function of this role is to apply a strategic lens to complex and sensitive departmental priorities, with a particular focus on creating a robust financial accountability framework and advancing the modernization of financial policies, tools, and reporting for several streams of grant funding. The position also provides expert advice and guidance to department staff on sequencing, alignment, and the effective framing of initiatives.

Qualifications

A related university degree (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, etc.), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience in finance or corporate performances.

Equivalencies may be considered: Master’s degree and a minimum two (2) years related experience, Diploma and a minimum of six (6) years related experience, one year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Notes

Hours of work: Monday – Friday, 8:15 am - 4:30 pm (36.25/week).

Positions currently available: 2 years temporary salaried.

Location: Oxbridge Place Building, 9820 106 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T5K 2J6.

Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification. 

This position is not eligible to participate in the work from home or hybrid work arrangement for the first six months of employment.

Traveling will consist of less than 5% of the work schedule.

Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
