The Ontario Line Project within the Capital Projects Group is seeking to hire a Manager to provide project management and subject matter expertise, specific to the Don Valley Crossings (DVC) portfolio supporting the delivery of the Ontario Line.
The Manager, Don Valley Crossings (DVC) will be responsible for oversight of Technical/Design and Construction services throughout the project lifecycle. The Manager is also responsible for contract and schedule management, construction quality, site safety and security, project financial accountability, project deliverables and technical input to program communications and intergovernmental relations during all stages of construction projects.
What will I be doing?
- Delivers project activities from design and construction through commissioning, handovers and transfer to Operations within scope, on budget and on schedule, in accordance with good project management, engineering and construction practices.
- Manages design and construction projects activities involving effective coordination and liaison with a large number of internal and external stakeholders: municipalities, other transit agencies, as well as other Capital Projects Groups and Metrolinx departments,
- Ensures that contractors’ construction plans and schedules are complete, workable, and in accordance with contract documents;
- Oversees contractors’ compliance to contract provisions, including monitoring safety, quality, environmental compliance, cost, and schedule performance.
- Assists the Senior Project Manager in managing consultants through all stages and phases of the project.
- Manages project issues and risks, facilitates effective conflict resolution, coordinates complex tasks under pressure to meet schedule and budget commitments.
- Manages site reviews/audits to ensure contractors and consultants are working in compliance with their contracts with an emphasis on maintaining a safe working environment.
- Provide input to resolution of construction, technical, and stakeholder issues to mitigate risks, ensure communication, and assist in major infrastructure decisions.
- Build, develop and maintain excellent relationships with all key internal and external stakeholders critical to the successful delivery of the project.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Demonstrates progressive experience in project management and implementation, including experience managing large, complex, multi-year transit projects, preferably for bridges and structures related works.
- University degree in Engineering or Architecture, preferably Civil/Structural/Architecture
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario or Architect (OAA) in the Province of Ontario is an asset.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of construction engineering, construction processes and value engineering.
- Project management experience to manage assigned multi-disciplinary projects of high value and complexity and supervise staff engaged in all stages of project management from start to close-out.
- Knowledge of municipal, TTC, Metrolinx and other national or international rail and transit standards is an asset.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
- Organizational, interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to coordinate complex multi-disciplinary projects under pressure to meet schedule and budget commitments.
- Proven problem solving and influencing skills to establish effective working relationships, negotiate, and deal with a variety of contacts, both internal and external to the organization; along with the ability to gain cooperation from individuals not under direct authority.
- Knowledge of Contract Law, Construction Liens Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Assessment Act, and the requirements of the Professional Engineers Act. Knowledge of Human Resources legislation to monitor and manage employees and contractors.
- A valid Class “G” driver’s license is required.
