Reporting into the Senior Manager, National Commercial Auto Underwriting, the role will oversee the performance and profitable growth of Quebec’s Commercial Auto business. The Manager, Commercial Auto Underwriting will be responsible in leading the team’s underwriting function and management of large and/or complex accounts.

How you will create impact:

  • Develop, implement and ensure the achievement of commercial auto underwriting strategic plans and related budgets
  • Manage the commercial auto underwriting operations including:
    • Oversee underwriting and ensure it complies with underwriting philosophies and corporate profitability objectives
    • Monitoring profitability and quality of business written through regular audits
    • Provide direction, guidance and technical support to underwriters
  • Field Broker inquiries/complaints and deal with issues in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Accept referred business and underwrite large and/or complex accounts, working with the National Underwriting team as required.
  • Monitor broker results and obtain feedback on overall quality of service
  • Effectively targeting and building external relationships and business opportunities focused on expanding market penetration
  • Team management including assigning and reviewing work, training and evaluating performance of team members

To join our team:

  • Strong functional knowledge and experience with underwriting principles, processes and procedures in Commercial Auto, with a minimum of 5 years commercial auto fleet & garage underwriting experience.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching and developing a team of underwriters across varying seniority levels, with a minimum of 3 years of people leadership experience.
  • Proven strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills in interacting with internal and external partners
  • Proven experience building/growing a book of commercial auto business and a commercial auto underwriting team.
  • Strong business acumen and customer service mindset focusing on building stronger partner relations and profitability
  • Deep and strong broker network and relationships in the Quebec market.
  • Proficiency in both English and French is essential to the main duties in this role, including servicing and communicating primarily with majority anglophone and francophone clients, groups, and teams. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.
