The Opportunity
Mosaic is seeking a Log Purchaser to work out of our Nanaimo, or Campbell River offices on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, Log Purchase, the Log Purchaser will work collaboratively across departments to meet volume, quality, and budgetary goals while supporting Mosaic’s broader strategic priorities. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading by example in safety and environmental management, including oversight of contractors;
- Supporting the maintenance of SFI and PEFC certifications and other corporate sustainability commitments;
- Developing and maintaining production forecasts by sort and product for designated projects;
- Supporting key purchase program strategies related to Federal mark volume, First Nations partnerships, product mix, and positive cash margins;
- Building and strengthening relationships with log suppliers, including First Nations, tenure holders, and private landowners;
- Supporting First Nations partnership initiatives and supplier-specific resource planning;
- Conducting timber assessments, pro forma analysis, bid package development, and supporting log purchase agreement drafting;
- Supporting strategic planning processes, including annual operating plans, forecasts, and long-term supply strategies;
- Managing log purchase production in collaboration with the Operations, Sales, Product Planning and Supply Chain groups to achieve target inventory levels; and
- Providing input to contractors on utilization, market conditions, and quality expectations.
What We’re Seeking:
- 5+ years’ experience in the BC forest industry;
- Registered Professional Forester, or Registered Forest Technician (RPF/RFT), or can demonstrate eligibility and progress towards RPF/RFT designation;
- Experience working with First Nations and a strong understanding of public land operational contexts is preferred but not required;
- In-depth knowledge of coastal species, log sorts (EUS), and log markets;
- Excellent communication skills, relationship-building abilities, and the confidence to represent Mosaic externally;
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and internal planning tools;
- A valid Driver’s Licence and a willingness to work in both office and field environments; and
- Occasional camp or out of town stays may be required.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $107,000 to $133,000. Individual compensation is commensurate with skill, relevant experience, and education.
