About the Role:
Join our team at Pemberton & District Public Library as a Library Assistant.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and highly organised individual to join our team as a Library Assistant. In this role, you will provide direct support to the Library Director and Assistant Director, playing a key part in the daily operations of the library.
This position is ideal for someone interested in pursuing a career in public libraries in a dynamic, community-focused environment. You’ll gain valuable experience across multiple facets of library operations and work closely with experienced library professionals in a supportive environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Perform all circulation duties, including check-in, check-out, renewing materials, and managing holds
- Assist patrons with general inquiries, library memberships, and maintaining/updating patron accounts
- Provide outstanding customer service at the circulation desk and throughout the library
- Support patrons with technology needs such as printing, scanning, computer usage, and troubleshooting basic tech issues
- Offer reader’s advisory services to help patrons find books and materials
- Respond to program-related inquiries and assist in promoting library services
- Catalog and process new materials into the library’s collection
- Handle interlibrary loan requests and processing
What you’ll need:
- Library and Information Technology Diploma or its equivalent OR Previous experience in the library field with a willingness to obtain Library and Information Technology Diploma or its equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a customer service setting. Experience in public libraries and familiarity with library-specific software is an asset.
- Proficiency in using and teaching others to use electronic products and tools, including Microsoft Office, Integrated Library System (ILS), and various devices and operating systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a positive and friendly personality.
- Ability to set boundaries, make sound judgments, and seek team support when needed.
