Position Summary
Academy Canada is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Therapeutic Recreation Instructor to join our dedicated faculty. The successful candidate will play a role in delivering high quality instruction to students enrolled in our Therapeutic Recreation program. This role requires commitment to student success, academic excellence and industry-relevant teaching practices. It’s a chance to inspire confidence and foster hands-on learning while setting our students up for a rewarding career.
Key Responsibilities:
· Deliver classroom and practical instruction in areas such as criminal law, use of force, investigations, ethics, traffic enforcement, and report writing
· Develop, update, and maintain curriculum and training materials in accordance with current laws, policies, and industry standards
· Assess student learning through assignments, exams, practical demonstrations, and scenario-based evaluations
· Mentor and support students in both academic and professional development
· Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance
· Stay current with trends and best practices in law enforcement training and education
· Collaborate with other faculty and law enforcement professionals to ensure program excellence
Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or a related field
- Experience leading group activities or programs (in any setting—schools, camps, senior centers, etc.)
- Six years combined education and work experience in the Therapeutic Recreation field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Passion for adult education and student mentorship
- Previous teaching or training experience an asset
- Strong knowledge of criminal law, police procedures, and ethics
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Post-secondary education in criminology, justice studies, or related field is an asset
- A current certificate of good conduct
