Position Summary
The Human Resources Consultant guides all aspects of recruitment and staffing for Custodial, Exempt, Maintenance, and Support Staff at Edmonton Public Schools. This role involves implementing HR policies, providing expert advice to supervisors and administrators, and managing responsibilities across recruitment, compensation, employment compliance, classification, employee relations, and labour relations.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
The Human Resources Consultant is responsible for comprehensive HR management for Custodial, Exempt, Maintenance, and Support Staff. This includes:
- Policy Guidance: Interpreting collective agreements and HR policies, advising staff and supervisors on HR matters, and overseeing seniority lists
- Full-Cycle Recruitment: Managing the entire recruitment and selection process from advertising and candidate screening to interviews, offers, and appointment letters, ensuring fair and compliant practices
- Compensation Classification: Handling payroll changes, determining pay rates, advising on job classification, and ensuring contract compliance
- Talent Acquisition Strategy: Leading advertising, marketing, and recruitment campaigns for various staff categories, including temporary staffing and university/college initiatives
- Workforce Planning Transitions: Administering staff transfers, managing recall and layoff processes, and facilitating bumping procedures
- Strategic HR Support: Contributing to labour relations, participating in bargaining, leading HR projects, conducting classification reviews, and representing the Division externally
Education/Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree in a related field and a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation
- Experience: Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in an educational environment, with a focus on working with multiple collective agreements, employment standards, and applicable legislation
- Communication Interpersonal: Excellent oral and written communication, strong interpersonal and conflict management skills
- Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to work with various levels of leadership
- Technical skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and PeopleSoft or other Human Resource Management System
Rate of Pay
$50.99 - $65.21 per hour
