Excavator Operator - Heavy Equipment Operator
Seeking an experienced heavy equipment Operator to lead one of our Residential Teams. This role primarily involves operating excavators but may also include using a variety of other equipment such as front-end loaders, mini-excavators, backhoes, and dozers. In addition to equipment operation, this position includes Team Lead responsibilities for residential construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators (5–40 ton) on residential job sites
- Excavate for basements, footings, and grade work
- Strip topsoil and backfill as required
- Complete septic system excavation and installation - an asset but not required
- Trench for underground utilities (hydro, water, sewer, electrical)
- Install and remove culverts
- Safely operate equipment around crew members
- Perform daily preventative maintenance checks
- Lead residential construction crews on-site
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Report equipment issues to the mechanic
- Communicate effectively with management, co-workers, and customers on-site
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience operating heavy equipment on residential construction sites
- Proficient in safely operating a wide range of heavy equipment
- Ability to read and complete basic written records and safety documentation
- Strong understanding of construction safety policies and procedures
- Experience working around existing utilities
- Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills
- Must be honest, respectful, flexible, and demonstrate strong work ethic
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 44 – 60 per week
