The Opportunity:
McElhanney has an opportunity for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Branch Representative to assist our operational and business support service branches in the Vancouver region. In this role you will assist these branches in managing Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS) administrative compliance while promoting and championing a strong culture of safety.
The successful candidate will have a strong continuous improvement mindset and a proactive approach to assist operational staff with HSEMS compliance. The position is an administrative office-based position supporting a multidisciplinary company that provides engineering, survey, GIS, geospatial, environmental, and construction management services. Home office will be Vancouver with travel to offices in Surrey and Langley and opportunity for site visits to assist in field inspections.

What You'll be doing:
- Act as the main point of contact for Vancouver Region HSE information and inquiries around HSEMS compliance with support from other Branch HSE Representatives from across the company, the Regional HSE Advisor, and Corporate HSE.
- Guide staff through established McElhanney HSE processes.
- Coordinate and supports Branch office HSEMS conformance including conducting office inspections and coordinating Emergency Response Plan (ERP) related activities.
- Communication liaison between branch and corporate HSE that actively participates in and contributes to the monthly branch operations meetings.
- Track and maintain branch HSE records, orientations, and testing.
- Book drug and alcohol (D&A) tests, and verify clearance by retrieving and checking D&A clearance letters.
- Schedule and coordinate training and appointments required for HSEMS compliance.
- Perform administrative tasks to ensure effective recording and tracking of training records in McElhanney’s learning management system.
- Assist branch management in meeting HSEMS compliance by verifying the quality completion of process documentation, generating reports from various systems, identifying gaps, and reporting concerns to management.
- Guide Branch supervisors through administrative aspects of the incident investigation process and incident reports through to the completion of corrective actions
- Support Branch Managers with HSE-related change management.
- A passion for the health and safety of people and a drive to contribute to the continued evolution of McElhanney’s culture of safety.
- An understanding of health and safety processes and tools such as hazard assessments.
- A strong appetite to learn and to be mentored by McElhanney HSE team members.
- Related experience with administrative, communications, and personnel coordination related tasks.
- Ability to learn and adapt to McElhanney’s HSEMS, including policies, processes, and procedures.
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and be comfortable with digital technology.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with employees ranging from corporate level management to junior staff.
- Superior organizational and time management skills.
The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $82,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
