Overview
The St. Paul Curling Club is seeking a motivated General Manager. This role is crucial to the continued success and growth of our club, focusing on enhancing membership, developing innovative events, and ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.
Duties
- Strategic Club Management:
- Ensure the ongoing successful operation of the club.
- Provide monthly reports to the Board of Directors, presented at scheduled board meetings.
- Act as the primary liaison between Curling Alberta and the Board, summarizing correspondence and facilitating necessary follow-up actions.
- Submit timely and accurate reports to Curling Alberta.
- Membership Growth and Development:
- Implement strategies to increase membership and engagement.
- Organize and execute trial events on free evenings, such as "Beer/Pizza Night - Bring a Friend Night"
- Event Management:
- Create and promote new events with Board approval, or as directed by the Board.
- Oversee and service the following bonspiels:
- Superleague Final Playdowns
- Junior Bonspiel
- 3 Wheeler
- Ladies/Mens Combined Spiel
- Seniors Bonspiels
- Haying in the 30's Bonspiel
- Volunteer management for the bonspiels, especially for bartending duties.
- Additional assistance during the specified bonspiels, particularly for bartending, will be provided exclusively by volunteers.
- Operational Management:
- Collaborate with league directors to manage lounge operations, including opening and closing procedures (creating team schedules).
- Maintain adequate bar stock and manage bar finances, submitting weekly proceeds to the Treasurer.
- Manage membership registration (online and in-person), locker rentals, and club bookings.
- Collect sign rental dues and ice logo rental fees in a timely manner.
- Ensure a clean and welcoming environment, including the bar area.
- Store lounge area empties out of public view.
- Maintain accurate inventory for curling club apparel as well as curling equipment. (Hack2House)
- Take registrations for bonspiels and communicate with the draw maker.
- Enter all receipts/expenses on a ledger sheet and submit weekly to the treasurer.
- Report any maintenance concerns/repairs to the Board.
- Explore possible ways to reduce costs. E.G. Purchase cleaning cloths that can be washed instead of purchasing cases of paper towels.
- Communication and Marketing:
- Establish and maintain regular email communication with members, ensuring accurate contact information.
- Regularly update the club's Facebook page and website.
- Implement advertising strategies as directed by the Board, utilizing appropriate signage.
- Promote bonspiels, special events, and lounge/ice rentals through various channels, including a shared Google Calendar.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in club or event management.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible and variable schedule, accommodating the seasonal nature of the club's operations.
- Proficiency in online communication and social media management.
- Experience with volunteer management.
- Experience with basic bookkeeping.
- Experience working with AGLC reporting would be an asset.
