Job Summary
Bluestar Professional Services Inc. is a family investment office that invests in small to medium sized Canadian businesses, taking controlling interests to maximize the value of their investments for all stakeholders, including employees, clients and investors.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Data & Reporting Analyst to join our dynamic finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing insights that drive strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in data analysis and reporting tools, along with a solid understanding of financial principles.
What You Will Do
Data Management
- Research data management and data visualization best practices
- Develop and maintain automated reporting solutions using VBA, R, Python, and/or SQL.
- Document processes using Visio to ensure clarity and compliance across financial reporting activities.
- Design, develop and administer SQL Server databases
- Use ETL processes to transfer, cleanse, and assimilate data
Report Creation
- Create financial reports and ad hoc analyses
- Conduct in-depth analysis of financial data to identify trends, variances, discrepancies and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data and provide insights for business analysis.
- Utilize tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Microsoft SQL Server to create visualizations / dashboards that support financial reporting.
- Write SQL queries to import data into Power BI and Excel
- Review reports to ensure accuracy

- Share findings and solutions, ensuring clarity and understanding
- Work with leadership to answer business questions
- Work with other team members to solve problems and discuss improvements
What you bring:
- 1-2 years experience in financial analysis and/or data analytics
- Post Secondary Education or Undergraduate degree in business, finance, accounting, or data science
- Strong proficiency in data analysis skills with hands-on experience using SQL for querying databases.
- Familiarity with analytical tools such as Tableau, Power BI, R, Python, Oracle, and Bash (Unix shell).
- Strong business analysis capabilities with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Detail-oriented mindset with exceptional analytical skills to identify discrepancies or issues within financial data.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build working relationships in a hybrid environment
- Ability to engage in effective communication and collaboration with various internal teams/stakeholders
- Ability to work autonomously to gather and analyze information, demonstrating a strong sense of ownership and accountability, but appreciate the benefits of being part of a team
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to travel within the GTA as required
