The Role:
Reporting to the CEO as our Strategic Financial Controller, you will be the financial backbone of all our ventures. You will not only manage the day-to-day financial operations but also serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and company executives, providing critical insights that drive decision-making and long-term growth. Your success in this role will directly lead to promotion to Chief Financial Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Oversee all monthly financial reconciliations, expense entry, accounts payable, inter-company transfers, and manage all tax filings and remittances (federal, provincial, state, and city, county) for our Canadian and US entities.
- Seeking, Applying and Managing, Provincial, State, Federal Grants in CAN and US: Ensuring grant compliance, remittances and successful funding placement.
- HR Admin, Remittance & Compliance: Administering Payroll, HR and subcontractor contracts, EHT & WCB reporting and filing. As well as all USA equivalents.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with leadership on financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and goal setting to achieve corporate objectives.
- Structural Optimization: Improve and manage corporate structures in both Canada and the US to maximize efficiency and compliance.
- Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all CRA and IRS regulations, staying ahead of changes and providing strategic advice. Lias with legal and executives on IP and client contracts and agreements.
- Growth & Expansion: Provide financial insights and strategies to support the portfolio’s expansion on a regional, national, and global scale.
- Cross-Functional Support: Assist with senior-level HR procurement and other strategic initiatives across the portfolio of companies.
- Benefits Program Management:Work with executives to select, manage and set up benefits programs.
- Policy Development: Provide oversight, implementation and record keeping of all policy at all entities
- Fraud and Security Exposure Compliance: Vet providers, solutions and provide oversight and compliance on implementation.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Designation: CPA or previous designations of CA, CMA
- Experience: 5-7 years of proven experience in multi-entity accounting, with a strong understanding of cross-border tax and corporate setup.
- Technical Skills: Deep proficiency in QuickBooks Online for Canadian and US operations.
- Business Acumen: Strong business knowledge with an entrepreneurial, proactive, and growth-oriented mindset.
- Soft Skills: High attention to detail. Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to be a self-starter. You should be a collaborative team player who is driven to execute and get things done.
- Industry Interest: A demonstrated interest in marketing and AI is a significant asset, as it aligns with our current and future business ventures.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 CAD, based on experience.
- Incentives: The opportunity for profit sharing (1-4% of annual net profits) or equity options (0.5-1%, vesting over 4 years) is open for discussion and will be determined based on experience and agreed-upon targets.
Location: This is a remote-friendly position, though a presence in Vancouver, BC, is beneficial for team collaboration.
