Are you an experienced and hands-on farm professional who enjoys working with animals, managing land, and leading a small team? We are a unique educational and entertainment agricultural farm near Midland, Ontario. Our animals include Highland cows, pigs, horses (including ponies and miniatures), bunnies, sheep, and alpacas. We offer public programs and animal-focused experiences while maintaining the daily responsibilities of a working farm.
We are hiring a Farm Operations Manager to oversee livestock care, land management, equipment use, and farm crew supervision. This is a practical, leadership-focused role for someone who takes pride in working the land, handling machinery, and supporting public-facing farm operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist managing daily animal care, feeding, and pasture rotation
- Operate and maintain farm machinery: tractors, skid steers, backhoes, mowers, and power tools
- Build and repair fencing (electric and standard), paddocks, gates, and small structures
- Supervise a small team of farm hands; manage task assignments and scheduling
- Coordinate with office staff to align operations with seasonal events and visitor programs
- Safely drive and tow trailers for livestock and farm equipment transport
- Manage flower beds and garden areas; support seasonal planting and aesthetic upkeep
- Oversee manure pile management and composting processes
- Maintain and improve field health, including mowing, reseeding, and pasture rejuvenation
- Ensure animal spaces and public areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained
- Assist with seasonal transitions, special events, and educational programming as needed
What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum 5 years of farm experience in Canada (required)
- Strong background in livestock care, pasture management, and equipment operation
- Mechanical and hands-on repair skills (fencing, carpentry, general maintenance)
- Experience in supervising farm staff and coordinating day-to-day tasks
- Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and weather
- Valid driver’s license with trailer towing experience (required)
- Clean driving record must be provided prior to hiring
- Criminal record check required prior to hiring
- Experience with flower/garden maintenance and composting systems (preferred)
- CPR and First Aid certification is an asset
If living off-site, the successful candidate must be available for emergency call-ins and occasional evening or weekend work.
Preferred Education & Background:
- Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Horticulture, Farm Business, or a related field
- Experience as a general farm worker, farm supervisor, livestock technician, or hands-on farm lead
- Carpentry or trades background is a plus
- Previous work on family farms, or visitor-focused farm operations is an asset
Compensation & Housing:
- Housing may be available on-site, depending on the candidate’s needs
- Winter operations are reduced but ongoing (animal care, equipment maintenance, planning)
