Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of TriSummit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas processing, transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia’s lower Peace, west central, and north coast regions. PNG’s western transmission system extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George and along the Highway 16 corridor to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing gas transportation and service to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the Province’s northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd., a subsidiary of PNG, provides gas processing, transmission and distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.

This position is located in our Terrace office or alternatively consideration may be made for the position to be located in one of PNG’s field offices. The Environmental Lead ensures that the company operates within or above regulatory environmental compliance, designs, refines and implements the related guidance documents including Environment specific practices and operating measures. The Environmental Lead will be responsible for overseeing environmental management, compliance, and sustainability efforts as part of the PNG’s EHS Program. The role focuses on minimizing the environmental impact of our activities while ensuring adherence to regulations and promoting best practices.

SALARY RANGE

  • $122,000 to $130,000 per annum

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As an Environmental Professional you will prioritize the following:

  • Manage environmental risks and ensure compliance with laws, corporate policies, and industry best practices.
  • Support construction execution through work plans, audits, and incident tracking/reporting.
  • Identify and mitigate environmental risks (e.g., fish habitat destruction); assess project scopes for risks.
  • Develop and maintain environmental databases and the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Collaborate with engineers and operations teams to implement environmentally sound practices.
  • Conduct environmental inspections and audits; communicate regulatory requirements and response plans.
  • Perform facility inspections and engage stakeholders and employees to ensure compliance.
  • Support internal and external environmental audits.
  • Engage with regulators, communities, Indigenous groups, and environmental organizations to address concerns.
  • Report to the Project Delivery Manager and support planning, documentation, training, incident reporting, and policy development.
  • Assist project teams with day-to-day environmental responsibilities.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in environmental science, or engineering, natural resource management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in similar capacity as the position requires above with a proven track record supporting role in Field lead position managing environmental issues relating to aquatic/terrestrial resources, vegetation management and/or environmental incidents with a working knowledge of other environmental legislation, regulations, bylaws (federal, provincial, and municipal) as related to the energy industry including reporting expectations.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing environmental issues (aquatic/terrestrial resources, vegetation, incidents) in a field lead capacity, with strong knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and reporting standards.
  • Eligibility for professional environmental certification or membership
