Day Program Instructor
Job Type: 1-3 Full-Time (40hrs/week) and 1-3 Part-Time (24hrs/week)

Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervision and support of Participants
- Provide engaging activities when work is not available or chosen
- Organize group activities and be able to support our community partners
- Teaching/Assisting Participants to learn new skills
- Effectively communicate with Participants, co-workers, supervisors
- Administer medications
- Train new staff as required
- Transport Participants in organizational vehicles to community events, work, volunteer opportunities,
- Effectively support mental wellbeing with sensitivity & care
- Work as part of a collaborative team
Minimum Qualifications
- Preferred: University degree or a graduate of a recognized Human Services, education, business, or related program.
- Willing to Train: We have a trainee program where you earn wages as you gain experience and certifications.
- Possession or willingness to obtain all 7 Provincial Core Competencies (Fire & Life Safety, Health & Personal Care, Medication Awareness, Individual Program Planning, Crisis Intervention, Behavioural Supports, Standard First Aid/ CPR-C) , along with food handler’s certificate
- Asset: Experience working with or supporting people living with a physical and/or intellectual disability.
- Demonstrated experience developing appropriate relationships in a helping or supporting capacity
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Asset: Alternative communication abilities
- Asset: business/social enterprise related experience or education
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
- Valid NS Driver’s License
- Possession or willingness to obtain Class 4 driver’s license
- Acceptable Driving record/abstract
- Suitable Criminal Records Check & Vulnerable Sector Search

Work Environment
- Shifts usually between 8am-4:30pm (M-F) but weekends and evenings may be required to support our social enterprises or supported employment program.
- May require operation of different styles of passenger vehicles
- May experience crisis situations, which place the safety and well-being of employees/participants in jeopardy
- May work singularly or in tandem with other staff
- May be required to perform personal care
- May be exposed to bodily fluids, viruses & common illnesses
- May involve: working indoors (noise, heat, interruption), outdoors (cold, heat, fumes, odours, irritants) in dusty, noisy environments, lifting & carrying, and with various equipment (manufacturing, farming, cooking, cleaning, woodworking)
