About the Role
We are looking to train new Court Reporters to capture legal proceedings using our advanced digital recording technology. We of course also welcome those with experience to apply! Key responsibilities include:
- Recording and monitoring legal proceedings (discoveries, arbitrations, hearing).
- Ensuring good audio quality and clarity throughout the proceeding.
- Maintaining accurate notes and annotations throughout the proceeding.
- Working closely with lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals and keeping absolute confidentiality.
The first couple weeks will consist of paid training on our software and hardware technologies, the role of the Court Reporter, editing skills, and practice jobs.
Working Environment
Our Court Reporters are independent contractors. As an independent contractor you can define your own schedule/hours. We aim to keep all our reporters as busy as they want to be although those with a more open schedule will generally have a fuller calendar.
There are a mix of onsite and remote proceedings which generally take place Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00-5:00. Overtime rates apply for jobs outside these hours. While we would prefer a candidate who can commit to both onsite and remote jobs, we are absolutely willing to interview those who can commit to remote only.
Qualifications
We would be thrilled to interview applicants with prior Court Reporting experience however there is no experience necessary in order to apply. Candidates with previous experience in the legal sector, notetaking, or editing are most likely to succeed in Court Reporting. Applicants should have:
- A strong attention to detail.
- Excellent listening comprehension.
- Proficient typing and technical skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and/or French.
