Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated individual who is able to spend time in our kitchen as well as work with children.
We are not in a position to support those who require LMIA.
Position:
- Full-time, contract for 1 year to cover medical/maternity leave
- Pay: $19.60-$20.00 per hour, based on ECEA qualifications
Hours:
7:00 am to 3:00 pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch
- 7:00 am to 8:00 am in the kitchen
- 8:00 am to 9:00 am in the classroom
- 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the kitchen
- May be reassigned to a classroom if short staffed
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals according to established recipes and standards.
- Handle food items with care and adhere to proper food handling procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area.
- Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and standards. This includes completing walk arounds with health inspectors.
- Working in the classroom as an ECEA, supervising and assisting program teachers with supervision of children and conducting various activities with the children for 1 hour each day.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with children aged 30 months to school age
- Valid and clean ECE Assistant or ECE or Responsible Adult Certificate
- Valid Food Safe Certificate
- Valid Childcare First Aid Certificate
- Valid and clean Criminal Record - Vulnerable Sector
- Prior experience in a restaurant or kitchen setting required.
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and familiarity with kitchen equipment.
Understanding of food safety practices and protocols.
Ability to work well alone or as a team.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
Physical / Environment Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing
- Sitting in child-sized chairs or on the floor
- Frequent bending
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
- Exposure to illness-causing bacteria and viruses
- Exposure to chemicals (sanitizer)
- Warm working environment, including steam from cooking and sanitizer
