Responsible for constructing, installing, and dismantling the forms that shape concrete into desired structures. Their duties include reading blueprints, measuring, cutting, and assembling materials like wood, plywood, and sometimes metal, to create molds for foundations, walls, columns, and other concrete elements. They also ensure the forms are properly aligned, braced, and capable of withstanding the pressure of wet concrete, while also adhering to safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Compliance: Adhering to all safety regulations and guidelines, including OSHA standards.
Interpreting Blueprints: Understanding construction plans and specifications to accurately build forms.
Communication: Collaborating with other construction professionals to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
Quality Control: Ensuring the finished concrete work meets the required standards and specifications.
Form Construction: Building and assembling forms using wood, plywood, and other materials to create the desired shapes for concrete structures.
Form Installation: Ensuring forms are properly aligned, braced, and secured to withstand the weight and pressure of wet concrete.
Reinforcement Placement: Installing rebar and other reinforcing materials within the forms to strengthen the concrete. – Most often completed by 3rd. Party crews.
Form Removal: Carefully dismantling the forms after the concrete has cured, ensuring the concrete structure is not damaged.
Finishing: Shaping, smoothing, and finishing concrete surfaces using hand and power tools.
Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Keeping tools and equipment clean and in good working order.
Material Management: Estimating, requisitioning, and inspecting materials as needed.
