The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION
As part of the Health and Wellness Department, the Community Wellness Facilitator / NNADAP Worker plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of First Nations community members by providing culturally appropriate substance abuse prevention, support, and referral services. This position is focused on reducing the impact of substance use disorders through community education, early intervention, and individual support. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other service providers to deliver holistic and culturally sensitive care using a strength-based, trauma-informed approach. The Community Wellness Facilitator / NNADAP Worker will collaborate with other WLFN staff and programs, community resources, and support as identified.
The Community Wellness Facilitator will provide one-on-one support to clients including completion of treatment referrals, crisis support, follow up, transportation, accompaniment to appointments, and facilitating wellness initiatives in the community. Further, support for problem solving and skill development will be provided in an array of areas such as housing services, referrals, and guidance. Community Wellness Facilitator – NNADAP will report to the Interim Director of Health and Wellness.
Employment Type
Full-Time Permanent (35 hours per week).
Probation Period
3 months from the date of hire.
Education Required
- Certificate or Diploma in Social Services, Community Support, or a related field.
- Specialized training in addictions and/or Indigenous mental health preferred.
- A combination of Education and Experience will be considered.
Experience Required
- Previous experience working in a First Nations community or with Indigenous clients is an asset.
- Experience providing addictions support or wellness support services.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of addiction cycles, harm reduction, and wellness strategies.
- Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
Overtime Status
Non-exempt.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Substance Abuse Prevention
- Design, coordinate, and deliver community-based substance abuse prevention programs.
- Facilitate educational workshops and awareness campaigns on healthy lifestyles and traditional values.
- Promote wellness through culturally relevant programs and activities.
Client Support
- Provide individual and group support to clients affected by substance use.
- Conduct intake assessments and develop care plans tailored to client needs.
- Refer clients to appropriate treatment and rehabilitation facilities and provide aftercare support.
Community Engagement and Outreach
- Act as a liaison between community members, treatment centers, and support services.
- Build strong working relationships with local organizations, health professionals, and Elders.
- Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify needs and deliver appropriate services.
Administrative:
- Maintain comprehensive case notes for daily client interaction.
- Participate in after-hours community support rotation 1 week per month (8:00 am - 8:00 pm).
- Provide culturally competent practices and understanding the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
- Maintain relevant records and statistics and provide reports to Social Development Manager.
Program Management:
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
- Contributes to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
- Maintains WLFN's policy of Confidentiality, Code of Conduct, and other policies and procedures.
