Role Summary
We are seeking a driven and strategic Commodity Trader to manage the procurement and sales of various commodities, build strong supplier and customer relationships, and identify new market opportunities. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in commodity trading, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to analyze market trends to maximize profitability. This role requires a results-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers to drive sales and sourcing opportunities.
- Execute buying and selling strategies, negotiating pricing, volumes, and contract terms to optimize profitability.
- Monitor global and regional market trends, analyzing supply, demand, and pricing fluctuations to identify trading opportunities.
- Manage inventory levels to ensure efficient product flow and meet customer demands.
- Collaborate with logistics, finance, and operations teams to ensure seamless trade execution and risk management.
- Analyze competitor activities and industry developments, adjusting trading strategies accordingly.
- Attend industry trade shows and networking events to expand market knowledge and business opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, maintaining accurate documentation for all transactions.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional departments, fostering a strong sense of teamwork to ensure seamless coordination of shipments, resolve issues, and optimize logistics processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
- 3+ years of experience in commodity trading, sales, or procurement (experience in food commodities is an asset).
- Degree or Diploma in Global Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, or a related field.
- Proven negotiation skills with a strong ability to establish and maintain key industry relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in market analysis and risk assessment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments to ensure seamless logistics operations and problem resolution.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with ERP/trading software is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with domestic and international partners.
- Ability to travel for customer and supplier visits, trade shows, and industry events.
- Multilingual abilities are a strong asset but not required.
