$37.75/hour


Reporting to the manager of Mission Engagement and Chaplaincy, as part of the Mission, Ethics, Research, and Reconciliation department, you will have two roles: Spiritual Care Facilitator and Spiritual Care Provider. In your role of facilitator, you will invite faith communities' participation in the religious life of the resident community, oversee the Pastoral Care Volunteer Program, and participate in the GSS/GSC pastoral care community. In your role of provider, you will meet the religious and spiritual needs of residents and staff, offer end of life spiritual care and ethics leadership.

As a Chaplain, you will have the ability to build relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and staff. You understand the complexities of bio-ethical issues and work effectively within the interdisciplinary care team. In this position, it is essential to appreciate and support the variety of faith traditions in our multi-cultural society.

The main scope for the chaplain:
  • Coordinating one weekly spiritual care program in both long-term care and assisted living communities
  • Respond to interdisciplinary team and resident self-referrals
  • Supervise and oversee spiritual care volunteers
  • Liaise with cultural and faith communities to develop supports where requested by residents
  • Provide staff, resident, and community support, as possible
  • Support psychosocial assessments, where requested
  • Conduct at least two memorial services a year
  • Lead Mission Month activities at Delta in May
  • Submit a monthly chaplains metric sheet & monthly GS invoice
There may be times, when the chaplain
  • Provide grief rituals and support, where possible
  • Provide conflict resolution support, where possible
  • Provide crisis diffusion/debrief support, where possible
  • Provide ethics consult facilitation when requested by Mission
  • Attend GS Mission Engagement training and working conferences
Requirements

Educational and other Qualifications
  • Masters Degree from a recognized Christian theological institution or work equivalent
  • Ordination/Consecration preferred
  • Two units of Supervised Pastoral Education (CPE or PCE)
  • Good standing & endorsement within your denomination
Work Experience
  • Experience in health care facility preferred
  • Intermediate level user of MS Office Suite

  • Effective interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Adept at written and oral communication with internal and external customers
  • Exhibit an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
  • Maintain an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations
  • Excellent active listening skills
  • Demonstrate flexibility by changing routine to accommodate client/resident needs
  • Must have the ability to work in ministry with people living with a variety of conditions and cognitive impairments
