Job Description
We are seeking a candidate to fill the position of a "CASUAL/AS AND WHEN" required Rail Traffic Controller (RTC) based at the Roberts Bank rail terminal in Delta, BC. The candidate MUST have Rail Traffic Controller experience, do not apply if don't have the required experience.
This opportunity is well suited for a semi-retired individual or someone who is available to work on short notice. A flexible work schedule is an important attribute for this role, as this casual employee will be called to report to duty to cover short notice unforeseen absences within the full-time staffing pool.
24 work hours are guaranteed per month, with potential to work up to 168 hours per month. Full training will be provided, which will be full time work until qualified.
As a Rail Traffic Controller, you are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains and engineering crews on the main track.
Position Accountabilities:
· Dispatch and manage rail traffic and track maintenance along the Roberts Bank rail corridor using Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) System software and hardware.
· Ensure open, fair and equal access for all user railways servicing Roberts Bank terminals.
· Provide control functions to ensure the safe movement of trains and other on-track railway equipment.
· Minimize train delays, terminal delay and customer delays through effective planning and communication.
· Data entry into proprietary software, Microsoft Office and various information systems.
· Maintain on-going situational awareness of the railway including; yard movements, equipment and signals, operating manuals, and computer applications.
· Assist internal and external customers in problem solving.
· Manage response for all emergency situations.
Position Requirements:
· A minimum of 2 years Rail Traffic Controller experience is a must.
· Qualified in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
· Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
· Effective planning, decision making and problem-solving skills in a team environment.
· Ability to work under pressure.
· Must be willing to work on-call shift work.
