Position Overview
Working closely with the project manager, the incumbent will primarily be involved with general finish carpentry duties and the direction of general labourers involved in the fire and flood restoration trade. Duties may include some drywall, flooring, tiling etc. on occasion.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Finish carpentry – casing, baseboards, cabinetry, closet shelving, doors, windows
- Rough carpentry – framing, stairs and board ups
- Minor drywall repairs (i.e. patch) to paint-ready stage
- Insulation and vapour barrier installation
- Minor painting to baseboards and other materials
- Measures, estimates, selects and requisitions materials
- Coordinates with office project coordinator, sub-contractors, inspectors and suppliers as required
- Does selective demo as per directions from Project Manager and protects materials to be restored and re-installed
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- 5+ years of carpentry/construction experience
- Valid BC Driver’s License and reliable transportation (truck or van) insured for work
- Must have own tools for carpentry work
- Clean criminal record as it relates to work
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and installation practices common to the carpentry trade
- Knowledge of all applicable building codes, standards, and regulations
- Knowledge of cabinet-making techniques is considered an asset
- Knowledge of estimating time and materials required for work projects
- Willingness to take initiative and be proactive in job progress and relay information regarding future scheduling requirements
- Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Must be capable of completing physical work including frequent heavy lifting (50 lbs), carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, standing, crouching, sitting, bending and repetitive movements.
Working Conditions:
- Must be flexible to work overtime, evenings, and weekends on occasion.
