As a Criminal Fingerprint Technician, you will be responsible for obtaining fingerprints, mug shots, descriptive information and any other measurements or processes necessary to establish the identity of persons under arrest or appearing before the courts on criminal code offences. Primary duties include:
- Gather fingerprints and demographic information from criminally charged individuals and enter all information onto Sentry.
- Collect fingerprints for Calgary Police Service (CPS) recruit applicants and civilian employees as part of the hiring process utilizing the Livescan digital workstation.
- Complete general administrative duties such as filing, responding to telephone inquiries, updating criminal booking files, and providing front counter customer service.
- Enter demographic information and fingerprints on AFIS system.
- Collect DNA samples from individuals convicted of designated offences.
- Order supplies such as paper, ink, fingerprint cards and DNA kits for the entire unit.
Working Conditions: Regular exposure to people charged with criminal offences, health risks, bodily fluids, profanity, rudeness, and the potential for physical altercations.
Qualifications
- A High school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) and a minimum of 1 year experience in a law enforcement environment.
- Must be eligible to obtain Community Peace Officer status under the Alberta Police Act.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience collecting DNA (blood and/or buccal swab) and fingerprints using Livescan or hardcopy techniques.
- Previous experience working with Content Server, Sentry (Niche), Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Justice On-line Information Network (JOIN) and other police information systems will be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Identification of Criminals Act and other federal or provincial statutes, will also be considered an asset.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have successfully completed job related training and/or courses.
- Success in this position requires efficiency and thoroughness, service orientation, stress tolerance and team building and teamwork. An effective communicator with a focus on results and the ability to build strong relationships.

- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
