About the Opportunity
JORI is expanding! We are currently looking for a full-time CA Customs Team Lead to join our team in Canada on a hybrid set-up. Reporting to the Canadian Customs Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of their customs brokerage team, ensuring compliance with CBSA regulations, and facilitating
the smooth clearance of goods. This role involves supervising a team of CSRs, PH Team Leads and the PH Release Team ensuring adherence to policies, resolving complex entry issues, and maintaining excellent customer service.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Supervise and support a team of CSRs, PH Team Leads and Release.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to enhance team performance.
- Monitor workloads (based on current capacity and expertise) and ensure timely processing of customs entries, on time/accurate billing.
- Monitor the team’s KPI and improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
Customs Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) regulations and trade laws.
- Review and approve complex customs entries, duty calculations, and tariff classifications.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and communicate updates to the team.
- Assist in resolving CBSA inquiries, audits, and compliance issues.
- Help ensure new CARM processes are implemented correctly and monitor for changes.
- Bond renewal
Customer Service & Relationship Management
- Act as the main point of contact for escalated customs-related issues.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, providing guidance on customs procedures and compliance.
- Work with internal departments to ensure seamless logistics and trade operations.
- Support business development. Visit with current clients and solve day to day client issues. Provide expert advice to both internal and external customers.
- Support Sales team as needed with potential clients. Make rate recommendations
Process Improvement & Reporting:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Analyze key performance metrics and prepare reports for management.
- Collaborate with IT and operations teams to optimize Cargowise functionality and workflow.
About You
To qualify, you will need at least 7-10 years of experience in the customs regulations business and at least 5 years in supervisory role. Due to the nature of the role, we also require a valid Driver's License. In addition, candidates with strong Customs background, skills, and experience in the following are also essential:
- Harmonized System Tariff Classification
- Freight, Canadian Customs, and U.S. Customs processes and procedures
- Trade agreements
- Import and export of goods in various industries
- Customer service or account management
- Designation or working toward the completion of a CCS (Certified Customs Specialist), CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist), or any professional customs designation
- Cargowise or equivalent business intelligence software platforms (asset)
- A positive attitude and solutions-focused customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office, and CRM best practices
Most importantly, you have the willingness to learn and thrive in an environment where independence and responsibility are given without constant supervision. You are an enthusiastic problem-solver with outstanding skills in problem-solving, attention to detail, and customer service. Also, willing to relocate if you are not from Calgary.
