BILINGUAL CLAIMS COUNSEL / EXAMINER, SPECIALTY INSURANCE - MONTREAL
The Bilingual Claims Counsel/Examiner, reporting directly to the Vice President, Claims Specialty Insurance, will be responsible for management of claims within the Specialty Insurance and Casualty departments.
Responsibilities include:
- Coverage evaluation.
- Drafting coverage letters and other documents (in both French and English).
- Setting claim reserves.
- Communicating with insureds, counsel, brokers, and claimants (in both French and English).
- Managing litigation and negotiating settlements.
- Authorizing payments as required.
- Acting as a resource for various business units.
- Ability to thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in both French and English).
- Strong critical thinking and analytical capabilities.
- Forward thinking and collaborative approach to problem solving.
- Self-directed work style with the ability to operate in a nimble entrepreneurial environment.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- A passionate, participative, service-oriented attitude
- LL.B. or LL.L. from a recognized university (preferred but not required).
- 2–3+ years of experience in private practice specializing in insurance law and/or experience in claims handling.
- Fluently bilingual in French and English.
- Property & Casualty experience is an asset.
- Membership in good standing with the Barreau du Québec- if applicable
