Position: Addiction Counselor and Social Service Worker
Location: Multiple Locations
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized service plans for each resident
- Provide individual and group counseling to residents, focusing on recovery support, life skills development, and goal setting
- Connect residents to other social services or assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, day care and other services
- Facilitate life skills training and educational groups on topics such as budgeting, nutrition, and stress management
- Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to ensure a supportive and safe living environment
- Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients' overall progress
- Maintain accurate records and reports, including maintaining HIFIS, resident progress and program evaluations
- Track and report on resident progress regularly.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Transport residents to appointments and activities
- Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and procedures
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Diploma in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a substance abuse treatment setting
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of addiction treatment and recovery principles
- Demonstrated excellent administrative and organizational skills, strong computer skills specifically in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and TEAMS.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team: 80% of position is independent work
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect clients' privacy.
- Lived experience with addiction recovery (preferably at least 2 years in sustained recovery).
- Clean driving abstract G licence required.
- CPR Certification or willingness to obtain
- Police Vulnerable Sector check is required.
Preferred:
- Experience Working with a non-profit or social service environment.
- Experience with trauma-informed care.
- Familiarity with local community resources and services.
- Strong communication and active listening skills.
