Our location in Sudbury, Ontario has an immediate opening available for an experienced Yard and Material Handler.
The Yard and Material Handler – Machinery Operations is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, movement, and staging of materials, parts, and equipment within the company yard and production areas using machinery such as forklifts, cranes, loaders, and other heavy-duty equipment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining production flow, inventory organization, and site safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Handling.
- Load and unload raw materials, finished products, and supplies using forklifts, telehandlers, skid steers, or cranes.
- Transport materials within the yard and to/from storage, production, or shipping areas.
- Ensure accurate placement and staging of materials per site layout plans and operational priorities.
- Organize and maintain material to ensure stability, access, and safety.
Machinery Operation
- Safely operate machinery and material handling equipment following manufacturer guidelines and company protocols.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment; report and tag out any defective or unsafe machinery.
- Assist in rigging and hoisting for large or oversized components during load-in/load-out.
Inventory Control
- Support cycle counts and inventory audits by tracking material movement and reporting discrepancies.
- Tag and label incoming or outgoing inventory with appropriate identifiers.
- Assist warehouse or procurement staff with location identification and stock replenishment.
Site Maintenance & Safety
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, ensuring clear paths and properly stored materials.
- Follow and enforce all safety procedures, including use of PPE and compliance with lockout/tagout and confined space policies.
- Support inspections and hazard reporting to proactively manage yard risks.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, telehandler, crane).
- Valid equipment operating certification (e.g., forklift license, crane operator certification) preferred.
- Strong understanding of yard safety and basic rigging principles.
- Ability to read load charts, shipping manifests, and basic inventory documents.
Skills & Competencies:
- Physically fit; able to lift 50+ lbs, climb, bend, and work outdoors in various weather.
- Strong spatial awareness and manual dexterity.
- Attention to detail and a proactive attitude toward safety.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer or tablet use (for inventory tracking systems) is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor and indoor industrial environment.
- Exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and variable weather conditions.
- PPE required: safety boots, high-visibility gear, gloves, hard hat, eye and ear protection.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 44 per week
