Axis Movement Company is seeking an experienced and dynamic Popping & Locking Instructor to lead an engaging and educational workshop for dancers ages 8 to 12. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate dancer to inspire students with one of the most iconic street dance styles.
About the Role
The instructor will deliver a high-energy, beginner-to-intermediate level workshop that introduces dancers to foundational techniques, musicality, and freestyle tools rooted in the popping and locking traditions. You’ll foster a fun, inclusive atmosphere that encourages creativity and confidence.
Responsibilities
- Design and teach a 1.5 to 2-hour workshop focused on popping and locking fundamentals
- Demonstrate techniques clearly, with breakdowns suitable for all skill levels
- Incorporate warm-up, technique drills, combos, and freestyle elements
- Inspire students with historical context and cultural appreciation for street dance
- Engage with dancers positively and provide constructive feedback
- Represent Axis Movement Company with professionalism and energy
Qualifications
- Proven experience in teaching popping, locking, or street dance styles
- Strong performance or battle experience in the genre (preferred but not required)
- Ability to adapt teaching style to a mixed-level group
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Positive, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor
- CPR/First Aid would be an asset
