Job Profile
The City of Cambridge has an opening for a Waste Water Trainee on the Preventative Maintenance Crew working within the Environmental Services Division of the Infrastructure Services Department available immediately. Reporting to the Supervisor of Water, the following requirements apply:
What you will be doing
- Works within the Wastewater subdivision, performing preventative maintenance activities on wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, including sewer main flushing, clearing lateral blockages, investigating spills and sewer-use bylaw infractions, removing debris from various stormwater infrastructure (i.e. ponds, inlets, outlets, grates, etc.)
- Basic operation of equipment such as dump trucks, vactor, flusher truck, along with various hand tools (i.e. Shovel, rake, wrench, hammer, etc.)
- All work performed is under the supervision of licensed Wastewater Operators and/or Wastewater Lead Hand.
- Will gain basic awareness of all wastewater and stormwater operating procedures, work order management, and relevant corporate policies and procedures.
Education
Minimum Requirements
- Experience of over 6 month, up to and including 12 months’ work related experience.
- A valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s license in good standing, with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (4 or less demerit point may be considered acceptable, considering the nature of infractions).
- Possess Operator-In-Training License for Waste Water Collection (OIT-WWC), as issued by the MECP
- Ability to operate various pieces of equipment
- Ability to operate small maintenance tools and hand tools
- Ability to work with different computer software
Location and Hours of work
This position is located at the Bishop Operation Centre, Cambridge Ontario.
Regular hours of work for this position are Monday to Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (40 hours per week) with the requirement to be available for overtime as needed.
Your compensation
This position is located within our CUPE 32 (outside workers union) compensation salary schedule Job Grade 3 and has an hourly rate of pay is as follows (2025 Rate):
Starting Rate: $30.50 per hour
12-Month Rate: $31.46 per hour
24-Month Rate: $32.40 per hour
